Tim Tarrant

Position: Senior Lecturer

Tim sadly passed away in February 2020 after a long battle with cancer.

Tim had 18 years experience at the BBC in News and Current Affairs, and also as a freelance series producer and producer/director (PD) for various documentary series and formats for C4, ITV, Discovery and the BBC.  Tim was also an editor, sound recordist, floor manager, vision mixer, multi-camera studio director, outside broadcast director, 3rd  and 1st assistant director on CBBC’s drama Byker Grove, self shooting PD on docusoaps, factual formats and documentaries, with a variety of cameras, in many challenging countries.  As a series producer he was responsible for creating the editorial and aesthetic formats of series of up to 30 x 30 episodes, managing teams of 30 and responsible for budgets of up to £1.3million. Tim worked on a wide range of factual series like Bear Grylls: Born Survivor, DIY SOS, Bailiffs, The Village and Wanted and was respected for his ability to work creatively within the pressures of low budgets and tight schedules.

Tim completed his PhD on the distribution of low budget features films, supervised by Jane Arthurs, Andrew Spicer and Jon Dovey.

He is very sadly missed.
