About me

Dr Steven Roberts (@Steve_f_Roberts) is a Learning Technologist at UWE Bristol supporting the Film Studies Department. His research interests include learning, technology, and film in different combinations. He has taught film and television at the University of Bristol, completing an AHRC-funded PhD on British and American widescreen technology there in 2019. Other previous roles involved researching contemporary European cinema for the University of York’s MeCETES project (PI: Andrew Higson) in 2015, and developing learning resources for the University of Exeter in 2018-19, outputs from which included the Widescreen South West Museum exhibit and Pamela Davies Collection of British production stills (report published by Alphaville journal). He began recording the ‘Discursion’ film criticism podcast (@discursionfilm) with Dominic Lash in 2018, which looks at recently released/restored films on home media and can be heard on Acast, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. He joined UWE as a Learning Technologist in 2021 to investigate and support current and future teaching practice specifically within Art and Design and Creative and Cultural Industries. He is particularly keen to hear UWE staff perspectives on creative responses to teaching remotely.
