Dr Julia Scott-Stevenson

Position: Research Fellow: Interactive Factual Media

Department: Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries, and Education (ACE), Digital Cultures Research Centre

Dr Julia Scott-Stevenson is a research fellow in interactive factual media with the Digital Cultures Research Centre. She works with researchers and industry to explore the potential of interactive and immersive factual media, across virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality, as well as hybrid and installation-based works. She is currently using a South West Creative Technology Network fellowship grant to explore whether immersive media technologies might offer ways of imagining a preferred future, and so help us identify a path to get there. She is also interested in the role and texture of bodies in immersive media, the issues of digital rights and surveillance, and in immersive narratives that explore environmental and social impact themes.

Julia is available to supervise both traditional and practice-based PhDs in the following areas:

  • Immersive media, emerging media technologies, VR/AR/MR
  • Interactive documentary
  • Traditional screen documentary
  • Social & environmental impact documentary
  • Community based or participatory approaches to documentary
  • Digital storytelling
  • Practice-led research
  • Digital rights, surveillance, online privacy and data
